Conscious Commitments 2025

As part of our sustainability strategy, we’re rolling out our Conscious Commitments program—to empower our hotels, support you in making an even bigger impact, and witness you become industry leaders.

We’re doing this through a series of Conscious Commitments. Think of them like voluntary pledges: they need to be trackable, measurable, and achievable within 1 year. Each relates to one of our ten Conscious Hotel Principles. In the years to come, we’ll roll out further commitments to cover all of our ten conscious principles, but for now, we’re starting with the first.

At our sustainability workshops during Arena* 2024, attending hoteliers identified the priorities that made the most sense to them, and voted on what they wanted the first commitment to be: measure impact data or get green certified by 2025.

You can choose the tools and certifications of your choice, but if the task of collecting impact data or find a suitable certification sounds daunting, don’t worry. We’re here to help you to take concrete actions and implement them, supported by special partner offers and resources. And if you successfully achieve your commitment, we’ll be there to celebrate your hotel’s efforts with marketing exposure at no extra cost to you.

Conscious Commitment: Measure impact data or get green certified

Conscious Principle: Measure & Communication

Timeline: April 2024 - April 2025

Hotel Benefits

  • Regulatory Compliance: Pre-emptively align with environmental regulations, avoiding penalties.

  • Innovation and Efficiency: Drive innovation and adoption of new technologies for increased efficiency.

  • Educational Value: Measuring impact/certification would offer opportunities for staff and guest education on sustainable practices, setting the hotel apart in a market where sustainability is increasingly valued.

  • Attraction value: Inspire your staff with purpose by inviting them on your conscious journey. Clearly understanding your vision and mission attracts new talent, partners, and vendors.

  • Cost Savings: Energy-efficient measures lead to reduced operational costs over time.

  • Marketing Advantages: Green certification enhances your hotel's credibility in sustainable practices. Attracts environmentally conscious guests seeking certified accommodations.

  • Embrace Transparency: With the increasing demand for sustainable options in travel, companies should prioritize transparent sustainability practices.

  • Reporting value: Impact reports (and pulled data) are increasingly relevant in today's banking, loan, and investment landscape. As more companies prioritize sustainability within their business framework, Impact Reports are a competitive edge when being vetted for RFP Programs. Often properties without this transparency will not be eligible for inclusion to the global hotel program.

Hotel Rewards

  • Your hotel will be listed as a ‘Sustainable Hotel” on our Sustainability theme-page (No additional costs).

  • Your hotel will be included in promotional newsletters and Social Media posts (No additional costs).

  • Your hotel will be included in an article on our Culture Journal (No additional costs).

  • Your hotel will be included in Design Hotels Stories and/or other PR and media contexts (No additional costs).

Our Commitments at Home

While we work to inspire our hotels to meet new environmental and social standards, we also strive to improve ourselves internally, too. Design Hotels will continue to internally track our own impact data. We’ve committed to measure our impact data and partner with Weeva for this. We commit to publish an Impact Report every second year, starting in 2024.
