Originally an affluent apartment house designed in 1883 by architect José María de Aguilar, the handsome red-brick Hospes Puerta de Alcalá is an icon of Bourbon Restoration period architecture. Guests eager to experience the landmark will be relieved that despite a minimalist style, Hospes took care to ensure that the original moldings, columns, wrought iron, and woodwork remain intact. The lobby's high ceiling and magnificently restored wooden door offer a grand welcome. This gracious sense of hospitality extends throughout the hotel, where a tranquil, opulent ambience is created through white marble and gold details offset by dark fine wood. The Bodyna Spa is ensconced in the former stables, while the Restaurante Malvar offers formal dining with an oak-coffered ceiling and stucco work—in contrast to the luminous interior patio, where guests can relax on comfortable sofas and listen to whispering water as they enjoy a drink at the hotel bar.

    Rooms & Suites

Ranging between 29 and 52 square meters, the 41 spacious rooms and suites at Hospes Puerta de Alcalá are all decorated with avant-garde furniture and shades of mauve, tangerine, and pearl gray. While many offer views of Alcalá Gate and Retiro Park, the Duplex Suites span two levels and offer a separate living room. The 52-square-meter Presidential Suite, meanwhile, boasts those glorious views, plus two bedrooms, a living room, and gorgeous hardwood floors.
