Rooms 29 /Architecture Lelio Oriano Di Zio /The Original Daniele Kihlgren

Northeast of Rome, Santo Stefano di Sessanio nestles in the middle of Abruzzo and is one of the region's most striking hilltop towns. There one finds the 29-room Sextantio Albergo Diffuso. Named after some of the area's first settlers, Sextantio's gorgeous series of buildings spreads throughout the handsome village, which was purchased and then meticulously revived by Swedish-Italian entrepreneur, philanthropist, and hotelier Daniele Kihlgren. Kihlgren committed himself entirely to the restoration, using strictly local materials—primarily terracotta tiles, wood, and limestone—and striving for historical accuracy. Sextantio is not part of the hip Italian hotel route of idealized glamour and luxury. It attracts people with a strong sense of adventure, a passion for history and authenticity, and a thirst for new experiences. But Sextantio equally draws those who value a beautiful local meal and cozy, elegant accommodation. While not a traditional hotel, tradition is deeply ingrained in Sextantio's foundations.

    Rooms & Suites

The 29 guestrooms of Sextantio Albergo Diffuso are spread over a gorgeous series of meticulously revived buildings composed into a luxurious and singular hotel. All rooms were restored using strictly local materials – primarily terra-cotta tiles, wood, and limestone – and by adhering accurately to historical ways of building. Artisanal skills that go back centuries were revived. Regional furnishing were studied, mastered, and replicated by Santo Stefano’s weavers with handmade fabrics. Thrown into this mix are Philippe Starck toilets, glass-enclosed rain showers, and high-end lighting.
