The grand 77-room Nobis Hotel Copenhagen is housed in an historic 5,400-square-meter landmark building that originally served as the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music. Bringing the Nobis magic to the midst of the Danish capital, the hotel is starchitect Gert Wingårdh’s “updated take on Le Corbusier. Danish classicism, which this building is a fine example of, is something special—more sophisticated, more stripped down than in Sweden,” he says. The historic landmark building on Niels Brocks Gade has been transformed into a cutting-edge contemporary luxury hotel—one where, like its Stockholm predecessor, food plays a central role. The restaurant, which takes liberty with design styles from the 20th-century, borrows from the best of Nordic culinary traditions and serves up modern seasonal cuisine. The 77 guestrooms span from 20 to 91 square meters, and all boast a luxurious king-size bed. The Superior Room and the Superior Loft room—at up to 22 and 23 square meters, respectively—each offer a shower, while the 26- to 27-square-meter Deluxe Room features either a shower or a bathtub. At up to 43, 78, and 91 square meters, respectively, the Junior Suite, the Penthouse Suite, and the Nobis Suite each feature a shower and a bathtub.
Alessandro Catenacci is the driving force behind many top restaurants, nightclubs, and boutique hotels in Stockholm and Copenhagen. His Italian name may reveal his Roman origins, but a distinctly Scandinavian sense of luxury is obvious in everything Catenacci does. Most of all he hopes to offer guests places where they can feel as comfortable and humbly self-assured as he is. “I sometimes look at myself in the mirror and think, ‘Am I really good at anything, or was it just luck’?”
