Fact Sheet

Location

Set on a quiet residential street in Kensington, just moments from Earl’s Court, Templeton Garden places guests within one of West London’s most established and well-connected neighborhoods. Once a rural retreat and later home to figures such as Beatrix Potter, Alfred Hitchcock, and Agatha Christie, the area balances cultural richness with a distinctly leafy character. Museums, galleries, luxury shopping, and celebrated green spaces—including Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, Holland Park, and the Design Museum—are all within easy reach, while quiet garden squares, Victorian terraces, and tree-lined streets reveal a gentler side of London.

Architecture Holland Harvey

Templeton Garden London Architecture

Architecture Holland Harvey

Templeton Garden is set within a reimagined ensemble of seven Victorian townhouses, originally converted in the 1970s and now carefully refurbished into a contemporary West London oasis.

The architecture retains the character of its historic fabric while introducing a lighter, more open rhythm throughout the building. At the rear, a striking glass extension—conceived as a sequence of Victorian-inspired orangeries—draws natural light deep into the space and frames uninterrupted views of the garden. Using a material palette rooted in the original townhouses, the hotel creates a seamless dialogue between old and new. Across the ground floor, layered public spaces unfold with a residential ease, connecting the café, library, and reception area with the garden.

Interior design James Thurstan Waterworth

The design is shaped by a quiet interplay between Victorian architecture and contemporary restraint, balancing quiet intimacy with a curated sense of cultural and creative expression.

Guests enter through a traditional tiled threshold into light-filled interiors defined by long sightlines that extend through a glass extension to the garden. Designed by Holland Harvey as a series of Victorian-inspired orangeries, the rear façade brings daylight deep into the building while remaining rooted in the material language of the original townhouses. Interiors by James Thurstan favor a pared-back English sensibility, using natural materials, neutral tones, and layered lighting to create a calm, residential atmosphere. Art, curated by Art Story, is integrated throughout as narrative rather than decoration, featuring works by Bethany Holmes and a hand-painted mural by Tess Newall that responds to the garden beyond.

Pippins Restaurant Modern British with a nostalgic twist

Pippin’s is a modern British restaurant shaped by the rhythm of the garden, where seasonal ingredients and nostalgic influences meet in a relaxed setting.

At the heart of Templeton Garden, Pippin’s draws inspiration from the surrounding private garden, with a menu rooted in seasonal British produce and carefully sourced ingredients from independent suppliers. The cooking blends familiarity with a subtle sense of nostalgia, presented in a light, modern way. Open throughout the day, the restaurant moves from breakfast through to lunch and dinner, with indoor seating and an outdoor garden terrace that extends the experience into the landscape.

Sprout Bar A serene escape

Sprout Bar is an intimate, garden-facing retreat where classic cocktails are reinterpreted with subtle, playful twists.

Adjacent to the restaurant, Sprout Bar offers a more intimate setting focused on thoughtfully crafted cocktails and relaxed evening drinks. The menu reworks familiar classics with gentle, unexpected details, designed to feel both familiar and new. An adjoining terrace opens onto the garden, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces and offering a quieter setting for drinks as day turns to evening.
