Using the terraces and patios in front of Santo Domingo Church as a point of departure, the newly built hotel contrasts the historic facades that surround it with clean, inviting lines.

Simple, elegant, brutalist raw materials make for an original atmosphere where both principal patios are windows to the sky, creating gathering areas covered in vegetation. Here, brick and red soil from the valley rest upon concrete walls that are augmented by natural resins, steel, glass, and recycled wood to form a sculptural whole.

Interior design Carlos Couturier—Grupo Habita; Root Studio

Otro Oaxaca echoes the warmth of its setting through the use of custom-designed, artisanal furniture and a color palette defined by brick limestone, exposed concrete, metal and natural wood.

Endemic green limestone floors contrast with solid brick to echo the feeling of Oxaca’s original convent walls. Local artists have crafted wood furniture and textiles that are complemented by the warm texture of the wallpaper, suede, resin, and metal found within each space. The hotel’s long hallway entrance is masterfully adorned with recycled wood initially used for railroad ties.
