Located in the center of Italy, Eremito hotel is surrounded by 3,000 hectares of protected natural reserve in Umbria. Considered the spiritual focal point of the country thanks to wonderful monasteries in the area, Umbria is a fitting choice for this Italian eco-resort. Built from a mix of the latest bio and old materials from the region, the innovative sustainable structure invokes the cells of monasteries, so much so that rooms are called “Celluzze” in the spirit of those ancient monk quarters.  The austere aesthetic aims to provide guests with an “old luxury”—plenty of quiet and space to reflect and rejuvenate, sans Wi-Fi, phone, and television. The kitchen serves up a vegetarian menu, also inspired by ancient monastic traditions, with ingredients sourced from local organic farms. The spa area features a heated pool dug from the rock and a stone steam room. It’s the perfect place to unwind while listening to Gregorian chants.

    Rooms & Suites

Eremito’s 21 “celluze” or rooms come with a wrought-iron French bed, a shower, and bathroom. Niches in the ancient stonewalls serve as desks or meditation nooks and have views of the green valley or rose garden. To help regenerate the body and spirits, the rooms do away with modern distractions such as telephone, TV, or WiFi. Guests are afforded the old luxury of peace and time to oneself. The bedding is made of handmade hemp yarn. And thanks to natural ventilation the rooms are cool without need for air-conditioning, though in the winter there is under floor heating by a wood-burning boiler.

    MADE BY ORIGINALS

    Marcello Murzilli

Marcello Murzilli’s tryst with “trends” started in his twenties when he founded the Italian fashion brand “El Charro”. Following his instinct for renewal, the brand’s country west urban style quickly became a success. Murzilli then took a two-year break traveling the world in a sailboat. His first hotel upon his return, Hotelito Desconocido, in Tomatlán, Mexico, was the start of Murzilli’s signature style: “the rediscovery of the essence of things.” During that hotel’s four-year construction period, the Italian hotelier lived in a tent by the Pacific Ocean. He did the same in Umbria during the construction of Eremito, having fallen in love with “the place; the colors, the light, the sparkling river, and the hills completely covered with trees.” Having had his instincts kick in again, Murzilli has sought to define the idea of luxury for the third millenium—ecology, technology, and spirituality.
