Art at Hill Hall draws from West Virginia’s landscape and history, with a custom mural bringing the region’s wild spirit indoors.

Built in 1923, Hill Hall was a school for generations of Fayetteville students. That history is still present in the building’s oversized windows, tall ceilings, and wide corridors.

At Patsy’s, Appalachian flavors and local ingredients bring travelers and West Virginians together around a welcoming table.

Architecture Aric Margolis
Hill Hall is a hotel made up of two former school buildings: a historic 1923 stone structure and a midcentury brick building, both restored to keep their history present. Each building brings its own character, while preserving and highlighting the details that were already there. Original wainscoting remains in the stone building, while exposed, wood-paneled ceilings are featured in the brick building. Both are lined with oversized windows that bring in generous natural light.

Nostalgia plays a big role in the hotel’s identity, creating a space that feels welcoming and personal. Design choices honor the past but layer in new energy. Warm, natural materials and wood details are used throughout. The palette is earthy with deeper accents and a few pops of color. Custom pieces, layered textiles, and a mix of vintage-inspired and contemporary lighting help soften the scale of the rooms, creating spaces that feel comfortable, grounded, and easy to settle into.

Patsy’s Americana
Functioning as both a restaurant and a bar, Patsy’s is where travelers and locals come together to bond over regional flavors. The menu and character are inspired by the recipes and southern hospitality of Pat “Patsy” Wendell, whose family cookbook tells the story of generations of cooking in Fayette County.
