Located in the heart of the city’s center, Nomad is deeply rooted in the community, working with emerging artists and up-and-coming bands.

A 1950s facade was carefully restored and returned to its raw concrete surface, while new structural additions, also using concrete, were introduced.

Voted one of the top bars in Switzerland, Nomad Eatery is all about cocktails and street food, renowned for signature drinks and perfectly crafted classics.

Location
Set at Bankverein, in the heart of the city, Nomad is just a five-minute walk from Basel’s main railway station, a two-minute walk from the Rhine, and only a minute from the Old Town—yet still tucked away on a quiet street. It’s hard to imagine a better base from which to explore Basel. Since Nomad came on the scene, over a dozen restaurants have opened in the neighborhood—from top Thai and Mexican eateries to a celebrated Ramen spot. The surrounding area is one of Basel’s key financial hubs, home to the headquarters of UBS, Basel Kantonalbank, and other major institutions.

Architecture Buchner & Bründler
The hotel’s front building is a renovated 1950s apartment house, the rear is newly built. Rather than erasing the existing original structure, the project builds on its character, preserving the facade and adapting and carefully extending the original spatial logic through new architectural additions. By connecting both structures through a shared ground floor, the design creates a balanced and dramatic dialogue between past and present.
Interior design Grego
Custom-designed kilim carpets, developed specifically for Nomad, act as a unifying element throughout the hotel, softening the raw concrete while adding warmth, color, and tactility. Together with bespoke furniture and lighting, these handcrafted elements create a sense of comfort and individuality without diluting the architectural clarity, offering a distinctive, non-standardized interpretation of luxury that feels both honest and deeply human.

Nomad Eatery Street food
Imagine wandering through a global street food market and choosing your favorites from around the world. From deep-fried aubergine with tahini and salmon teriyaki to the signature Big Nomad Burger—it’s all here.

Nomad Bar Signature cocktails
Discover rare, 30-plus-year-old whiskies alongside one of Basel’s most extensive selections of non-alcoholic cocktails. Here, drinks are crafted from home-infused spirits, local sirups, and fermented ingredients to produce truly classic cocktails.
