Architecture Zeller & Moye

Architecture Zeller & Moye

The landmark building has been carefully preserved, with new elements, such as enlarged windows and skylights, working in harmony with the original architecture.

To bring this almost-vanished historical jewel back to life, the architects kept the vintage façade and old walls intact so that present and past layers coexist to form a single, richer entity. Warm whites and grays provide a neutral background that enables the structure to stand out amid the verdant greenery. A generous, central spiral staircase was created to connect two stories of the house at the cloister, while the floors have been finished with polished ceramic, reinterpreting the materials used in the colonial houses of Yucatán.

Interior design Zeller & Moye

Wood beams, stone floors, wall tiles, frescoes, and henequen textiles come together beautifully to bring this old structure to new heights.

Here, the natural elements—vegetation, sky, earth, water, fire, the flow of air—form the central experience. Modernism, traditional Yucatán architecture, and local craftsmanship come together through bespoke elements—almost all the furniture has been specially designed for the hotel—with an abundance of brass, lacquered steel, stone, and leather adding gravitas. A warm, monochrome color palette of whites, light grays, and blacks complements the endemic vegetation found throughout the private and public areas of the hotel.
