Bookable now for stays beginning April 1, 2019. When you strip down to the basics, what do you have left? The 150-year-old Palazzo Daniele expunged its heavy past, including furniture, and returned to its core essentials. In the nine suites, bare walls feature the cracks of time and monastic beds take center stage, serving to exaggerate the grandeur of the original ceiling frescoes and mosaic flooring. Sister property of G-Rough in Rome, the townhouse is part of Gabriele Salini’s collection of wholly original hotels that bind art, design, history, and authenticity. Palazzo Daniele has been in the Petrucci family for four generations and the place reflects long-time owner Francesco Petrucci’s passion for art through a wicked contemporary collection gracing the walls, as well as through sculptural pieces that double as lights, wardrobes, and more. Located in village of Gagliano del Capo in Puglia where the Adriatic’s rocky coastline meets the sandy beaches of the Ionian Sea, the palazzo features a series of courtyards with an orangery and an ink-black swimming pool.

    Francesco Petrucci and Gabriele Salini

When Francesco Petrucci returned to Puglia after spending many years abroad pursuing a career in law and collecting art, he thought about what to do with his ancestral home — one that had housed four generations of Petrucci. It was clear that art was going to be a strong focus, and so artists were invited to stay and to create works while his friends and award-winning designers Ludovica and Roberto Palomba converted the townhouse to a dazzlingly original space. His business partner Gabriele Salini, who also has a family home in Puglia, is known for his unconventional approach, and is redefining the hospitality landscape in Italy one transformational heritage property at a time.
