Aurua Yangshuo Sugar House Architecture

Architecture Zhao Chongxin, Dong Gong, and Guo Liaohui

Integrating industrial heritage, the surrounding landscape, and art, the hotel, which has won numerous architectural awards, is formed from a historical sugar factory.

Fully preserved 1969 sugar factory trusses, a pressing room, a refining room, boiler rooms, a power plant, a molasses tank, and vintage slogans—all nestled amid the magnificent karst landscape—set the authentic stage for the hotel. The old buildings were fully restored with historical preservation in mind, while the new structures were designed with wood-patterned fair-faced concrete, handmade sugar bricks, and bamboo-structured karst caves. The trusses of the old sugar factory were inspired by the nostalgic scenes from Tarkovsky's films. An iconic riverside cliff swimming pool, integrating industrial ruins and natural scenery, offers lovely views of the Li and the karst landscape.

Interior design Ju Bin

Embodying the beauty of nature and the splendor of imperfection, the hotel presents minimalist modernism integrated with Oriental aesthetics and industrial style.

Utilizing open spaces, natural light, and local artwork, the hotel presents a harmonious and relaxing atmosphere that blends seamlessly into the tranquil natural landscape. Here, preserved industrial relics and modern minimalist aesthetics create an award-winning design scheme that has become a landmark cultural resort destination in Yangshuo.

Into the mystic Art, music, festivals, memories

The hotel’s unique art, music, and rituals shape a living landscape experience.

Here, culture is not presented—it is lived. Installations rise within the karst landscape, exhibitions evolve as ongoing artistic dialogues, and music drifts through open-air gatherings where nature becomes part of the composition. Rituals and performances transform the Sugar House into a shifting canvas of fire, sound, and collective imagination.
