Built in 1969, the motor-lodge-like structure is midcentury through-and-through...

with FORS Architecture + Interiors striving meticulously to preserve that original character during its renovation. With the location firmly in mind, the designers struck a balance between creating an urban destination and a springboard to the surrounding desert’s trails and mountains, while paying homage to the Native American and Mexican influences in the Southwestern design lexicon.

Elements of brass, stone, and saddled leather nod to southern Arizona’s cattle ranching heritage and mining history throughout the hotel.

The surrounding mountain ranges and desert landscape are reflected in a color palette of burnt sienna, the yellows and oranges of a Tucson sunset, and the hues of Arizona’s rocks and flora. Complementing dashes of Desert Modernism are crisp white walls, geometric tiles, and contemporary artworks, with Tucson’s artisanal heritage showcased through macramé plant hangers and local succulents.
