Gramercy Park’s genteel glamor is a rare feat. Set in one of the most coveted areas of Manhattan, Julian Schnabel has transformed the sophisticated charm of the storied Gramercy Park Hotel into a full-fledged work of art. The legendary hotel has, for nine decades, opened its doors, night after night, to international artists, literati, fashion designers and intellectuals. Today, a lushly landscaped rooftop garden for private events that affords excellent views of the New York skyline and engagingly designed interior spaces offer guests many evocative places to dine or linger over drinks. Guests also have exclusive access to the leafy Gramercy Park, New York’s only private park.
Each one of the 190 guestrooms is uniquely furnished with a mix of flea market finds and custom-made furniture, referencing different eras. The generous rooms and suites of this boutique hotel in New York are richly layered with velvet curtains, leather wing chairs, carved stone mantels, and original art. Sensual fabrics and textures throughout, and a Renaissance-inspired color palette give guests the feeling of floating through a living masterpiece. The property's seven specialty suites are each unique, with spacious living rooms; some also come with dining rooms and bathrooms featuring custom sculpted soaking tubs. A highlight of securing a room at this legendary hotel is getting a key to the exclusive Gramercy Park, the only gated private patch of green in the Big Apple.
The evening sun casts slate-gray shadows over Manhattan as your mind swims with the day’s impressions—the city’s untamed energy, its creativity, its white-hot newness…

Like a living work of art, the Gramercy’s lush interiors feature velvet curtains, a Renaissance-inspired color palette, and arresting large-scale original works by David Salle, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Oscar-nominated filmmaker and iconic artist Julian Schnabel’s mythic, often-controversial career is rooted in his ability to tap a vast alchemy of sources and materials. Together with real estate mogul and art collector Aby Rosen, Schnabel transformed the century-old Gramercy Park Hotel—once the headquarters for high bohemia—into an exquisite gallery hotel infused with intense feeling and opulent tactility. “Basically, I’m a painter,” Schnabel says, “I built a place I’d like to be in.”
