      About your stay

Located in the edgy neighborhood of Bethnal Green, Town Hall Hotel mixes architectural styles like the multicultural residents walking outside. Imagine stately sweeping staircases, marble flooring, high ceilings, generously proportioned apartment-style rooms and a decadent brass, marble-clad swimming pool and you start to get the picture. Town Hall Hotel is one of the most unusual properties you might ever have the pleasure of staying at. Right from its handsome Edwardian façade, bling chandeliers to contemporary art waiting at corners to surprise and engage you. The cherry on top is definitely the size of the rooms – large, styled in a sparse, contemporary style, which is in this case works rather well to give off a home-away-from-home respite. There’s no shortage of culture in this part of town with a litter of galleries, hip weekend markets and fine restaurants, two of which, the Typing Room and Corner Room reside in the hotel.

      ARCHITECTURE

      Rare architects

Owner Loh Lik Pek took the bold step of choosing the cerebral architectural practice, Rare, to carry out the uncompromising design. The rooftop extension was aimed at using traditional techniques and motifs within a contemporary design. The result is a striking laser-cut aluminum skin, working as an abstract veil on the Edwardian façade of this heritage-listed building.

      INTERIOR DESIGN

Edwardian meets Art Deco meets Contemporary

Restored original details in the public areas and suites give guests a taste of the building’s former grandeur. The epitome of which is De Montfort Suite with its triple-height ceiling, ornate molded ceilings, Edwardian and Art Deco detailing and high arched windows. To divide this space into different zones, Rare architecture chose a series of glass partitions for an impressive open-plan space.

There’s also a state-of-the-art kitchen furnished to professional standards should you feel like having a fine meal prepared for you. Two plaster statues by famed sculptor Henry Poole add to the art repertoire of the hotel.
