Husband and wife team Kit and Tim Kemp recently reacquired their very first property, the Dorset Square Hotel which they originally bought in the eighties. Located in London's Marylebone, an exciting residential area within easy reach of the city’s theater and financial districts, the hotel is surrounded by shops, restaurants and world-class galleries. The couple has always had an affinity for this property, which led to the birth of Firmdale Hotels. After an extensive refurbishment, the English country style has been replaced by Kit Kemp’s signature stamp: bold colors, contrasting fabrics, and one-off art pieces and furnishings. The interiors are intriguing and engaging, from the plush guest drawing room with an open fireplace, to the lively bar, and brasserie that features specially commissioned wallpapers and hand-woven carpets.

      Rooms & Suites

The reacquired Dorset Square Hotel has a special charm thanks to the fact that it resides in a beautiful Regency Townhouse. The 38 individually designed bedrooms come in all shapes and sizes, including quaint attic rooms complete with sloping rooftops. Many of this central London hotel’s rooms and suites overlook a leafy private garden square that was originally Thomas Lord’s first cricket ground. This little piece of history has influenced the hotel’s décor, with an interesting collection of cricket memorabilia displayed throughout. Kit Kemp’s signature style is at its most tailored in the Marylebone Room where gray-wool-clad walls and chairs form an utterly stylish suit suite.

      A Regency Gem

Dorset Square Hotel sits on the verdant corner of Marleybone’s Dorset Square, site of Thomas Lord’s original cricket ground. Housed in two combined Regency townhouses, Kit Kemp has maintained the classic structures’ fine proportions and light, elegant touch. Since its reacquisition, the first hotel in the Firmdale fleet has undergone extensive refurbishment. The country house style of its former days has been updated with Kit's fresh contemporary English point of view. Inside, 38 bedrooms adorned with items from Kemp’s travels around the globe span five floors, many of them overlooking tranquil private gardens.

      Boldly Bespoke

Kit Kemp’s eye for eclectic detail ensures that no two spaces are alike. She infuses Dorset Square with an exciting mix of bespoke elements like luscious new fabrics from her exclusive collection with Christopher Farr and hand-woven carpets from Argentina. A sumptuous drawing room invites guests to gather on plush sofas and chairs or to lounge solo with a good book.

      Kit Kemp

Together with her partner Tim Kemp, award-winning designer Kit Kemp stands at the helm of nine hotels. This quirky design guru’s aesthetic reflects a fresh, modern take on English style. Mixing eras with state-of-the-art technology, the self-taught designer follows no rules but her own, creating a signature style that strikes the perfect balance between classicism and modernity. Kemp’s pioneering work earned her the Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year in 2008, and her hotel group Firmdale Hotels received the Queens Award for Enterprise in 2000, 2006 and in 2009.
