Architecture

AN INTIMATE RETREAT

Located on the cobbled Monmouth Street, the building dates back to the 1890s when it operated as a French hospital. The structure lay neglected for years until 1996 when hoteliers Tim and Kit Kemp—whose flair for interior design is world-renowned—transformed the property into one of London's most charming getaways. Surrounded by nearly 21 theaters, the building takes on the character of a stage set. Yet architectural details like a sweeping stone staircase usher guests into sumptuous soundproofed rooms that cocoon them from the hustle and bustle of nearby boutiques, restaurants, cafés, and bars. Once again, the Kemps have created a discreet, tucked-away atmosphere in the heart of the city—a pinnacle for luxury hotels in London.
