ARCHITECTURE

With Boundary, Conran and Prescott have built less a hotel than an architectural homage to the great designers that have influenced Sir Terence in his storied career. The hotel is housed in a former printing factory and warehouse that exemplifies the industrial architecture of the Victorian era, and upon restoration, the team extended the building vertically with two stories of glass, steel, and copper—as designed by Conran & Partners. The result is a hybrid of the old and new: picturesque red brick, white awnings, and tall vertically sliding windows cast an eye back to the late 19th century, while a turquoise glass upper section is topped off by the rooftop terrace’s elegant cream parasols.

The modern Dickensian Suite by Polly Dickens reflects the spirit of her great, great, great, great grandfather, Charles Dickens and his view of Shoreditch.  A highlight is the elegant mezzanine bathroom done in black and white triangular tiles.

INTERIOR DESIGN

AN HOMAGE TO GOOD DESIGN

Conran & Partners love design—its history, its heroes and its hopes. Their Boundary Hotel is a perfect reflection of this. The Josef Hoffmann Room rejoices in the simple shapes, minimal decoration and geometric patterning for which the Austrian architect was known; the Mies Van der Rohe room features a picture of his iconic Seagram’s building as the bed’s headboard while original Van der Rohe-designed furnishings like the classic Barcelona chair and ottoman take pride of place.
