Architecture

Kerry Hill Architects

Kerry Hill Architects aimed to create an aesthetic that pays homage to the ancient city of Sukhothai while respecting Bangkok’s current status as a world city. This concept manifests itself as a landscape of Oriental gardens and lotus ponds dotted with low-lying geometric buildings in cool white that house world-class culinary establishments and 210 guestrooms. Also adding to the authentic charm are symmetrical colonnades, reflection pools, and traditional Sukhothai-style sculptures, while a swimming pool and deck encourage guests to take in the scenery at their own pace.

Thai fabrics and reflective surfaces simultaneously add textural depth to a natural canvas of bronze, marble, silk, and teakwood while referencing the traditional Sukhothai style, and custom furnishings and lighting are found throughout the guestrooms. Ornaments and objets d’art range from Oriental stone carvings to fragile plant- and flower-based centerpieces—a contrast that reflects the overall concept of ancient and contemporary hybridity.
