      About Your Stay
      The Dolder Grand

Perched above Lake Zurich against a scenic backdrop of rolling wooded hills, The Dolder Grand is both a historic landmark and a testament to contemporary architecture. The luxury hotel boasts 173 rooms, a two-Michelin-star restaurant, and the Garden Restaurant with spectacular views, as well as a 4,000-square-meter spa. While The Dolder Grand's proximity to Zurich offers guests the excitement of a cosmopolitan city, its pristine setting among Switzerland's beautiful nature makes it a serene retreat from urban life as well. Since the reopening, more than one hundred illustrious artworks from the private collection of Urs E. Schwarzenbach have graced the hotel. By embracing its historic origins, The Dolder Grand's updated style pays homage to the past while epitomizing modern luxury.

      Lord Norman Foster

The Dolder Grand’s venerable history dates back to 1899, when architect Jacques Gros designed the original hotel as a traditional Swiss castle. In 2004, world-renowned architect Lord Norman Foster dramatically renovated it by adding two modern wings whose organic shapes echo the surrounding landscape's gently rolling hills. The sweeping glass facades of Foster’s design offer magnificent views, as well as an aesthetic contrast to the main building’s geometric wooden framework and sharply angular steeples.

Regal hues in a mellow setting

Foster’s wings have been outfitted in decidedly modern detail, emphasizing their undulating, wave-like spaces. The rooms in the two new wings epitomize the spirit of the modern age, with ambient lighting and plush fabrics to create a mellow setting.

The Dolder’s eclectic interiors are the work of United Designers of London, who selected a diverse array of furnishings that would signify both the hotel’s established past, as well as its contemporary arrival. Its frescoed ceilings and classic European elegance accentuate the rich history of the main building, while its rooms have richly patterned fabrics in regal hues of gold and crimson.

      Urs Schwarzenbach

He may spend a fortune on his passion for polo and his team, the Black Bears, but Swiss-born financier Urs Schwarzenbach hasn't neglected his growing property empire. Holder of Switzerland's largest private foreign exchange dealership, Schwarzenbach saw the £270 million refurbishment of his luxury hotel The Dolder Grand. Schwarzenbach and his wife Francesca also oversaw the renovation of the Palais Layadi in Marrakech, said to be the largest private restoration inside the walled medina. Calling his opulent Scottish estate home, Schwarzenbach knows what pleasure, exclusivity, and relaxation truly mean, qualities that are duly reflected in his properties.
