      About Your Stay

When Daniela and Philippe Frutiger started to design a property in Minusio, on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore, they knew they had to do something exceptional to complement the setting. Clever design features, such as the 400-square-meter roof terrace, allow guests to make the most of the region's Mediterranean climate, which is warmed by 2,300 hours of sunshine a year. With only fourteen rooms and one suite, the guest experience at Giardino Lago is engineered to offer maximum comfort and service – including fly-in transfers with the hotel's private airline, Fly Giardino. Whether visitors are enjoying private access to the lake, breathing in pure air on the sun terrace, or appreciating the views from the sensuously curved exterior staircase, they'll discover that the hotel was built to celebrate its natural surroundings.

Francesca Alder-Schweizer from Bofor Design teamed up with Rolf Balmer from Raumforum to create the hotel’s smart design. The exceptional setting of the property can be seen through the building’s broad glass windows, or from the sensuously curved exterior staircase. Nearby, pointed white parasols are staggered around elegant tables and chairs, providing shade from the sun and allowing alfresco diners to take advantage of the mild climate. Although the hotel feels intimate and exclusive, its public spaces are airy and open plan, confirming its status as a hub for people to meet and relax in. At the 400-square-meter outdoor roof lounge, furnished by Dedon, guests can take in unparalleled views of the deep-blue lake.

      Interior Design
      Rooted in Mother Nature’s palette

Throughout the public spaces, the décor is warm and Mediterranean, using earthy materials like stone and wood. In the fabrics, there are splashes of lime and sky blue, paying homage to Mother Nature’s own palette. The 14 rooms and one suite provide isolated retreats, where guests can indulge in their surroundings. Decorated with Designers Guild fabrics and smoked-oak parquet, the rooms are light and uplifting, with touches that offer a playful nod to the towering mountains just outside.

      Daniela and Philippe Frutiger

The lives of Daniela and Philippe Frutiger have been connected to the Giardino Hotel Group ever since they met at its first property in Ascona in 1994. Together they repositioned and expanded the Swiss hotel brand into a successful business encompassing three hotels, the private airline Fly Giardino and a beauty and cosmetics line, Dipìù. Philippe, the firm's CEO, trained as a cook before learning the ropes of hotelery in his native Switzerland and abroad. His wife Daniela, originally from southern Germany, is a trained beautician and pharmacist and the group's project manager, presiding over interior design and spa operations. The Frutigers' key values - quality of life, sustainability and service leadership - are exhibited throughout their properties in a fresh interpretation of luxury for the modern traveler.
