      About your stay

Formerly a notorious haunt of the old-school jet set, this proud and palatial building, 10 minutes from Mallorca’s capital city of Palma, once hosted parties that kept the paparazzi snapping. The atmosphere now is more stylishly relaxed, but international travelers who come today to the Hospes Maricel can still savor a hint of those decadent days in this building’s retained details—a neoclassical entrance, large windows, neo-Gothic pillars. A Hospes Design Team revamp has returned traditional Balearic elements of the original structure—archways and arcades, columns in marble and local stone—while modern accents supply a beautifully contemporary flair. The 51 rooms and suites fulfill modern priorities with a design that maximizes comfort, space, and light and uses neutral colors to complement brilliant views of the Mediterranean. At Hospes Maricel, the seafront arcade and grand terraces send guests straight to another era—or to a state of relaxed bliss.

      Architecture

      Sand, Stone, Sea, Sublime

Nestled into an idyllic landscape, the arcades and terraces of this proud, palatial building descend straight down into the rocks lapped by the Mediterranean. Hospes Maricel’s atmosphere and style today is relaxed, but the fine skeleton of the building dating from 1949 remains, such as its neo-classical entrance, large windows, and pillars with neo-Gothic capitals. Following a restructuring by the Hospes Design Team, historically important Balearic design elements have been brought back. Thanks to dense sandstone trucked in from nearby Santanyí, the archways, pillars, and marble now recall an undeniable past glory.

While the seafront arcade and extended terraces resembling steps are undeniably grand, the deep, wicker armchairs and the potted herbs on tables tell a more down-to-earth tale. The 51 rooms and suites fulfill simple modern priorities with interior design that maximizes comfort, space, and light.

Relax by the pool, which seems to flow into the ocean, or dive into it off the adjoining wooden deck.
