Not many hotels ensconce their check-in counter in a five-meter stainless steel orb or invite guests to lounge upon a seductive Moraine sofa by Zaha Hadid in their lobby. As guests step through the glass doors of klapsons, the combination of five-star luxury and a distinctive sensitivity toward contemporary design immediately makes itself apparent. William Sawaya of Sawaya & Moroni spearheaded the design team, giving each guestroom at klapsons an individualized design identity so that no two are alike, ensuring that visitors have a new experience, and discover new comforts and indulgences with every stay at this innovative hotel. The element that unites the klapsons experience is without a doubt the opulent pampering, whether luxuriating in Egyptian cotton sheets topped with goose-down bedding or indulging in drinks at Fabrika, the alfresco sky terrace bar on the 17th floor. Subtle yet suitable for the savviest and most discerning travelers, klapsons charts a new frontier in hotel ideology in Singapore's Central Business District.

Conceived of as an indoor plaza, futuristic details abound in the hotel’s lobby. More than a few echoes to Stanley Kubrick’s iconic "2001" can be found in the hotel’s innovative design like a seductive, organic ceiling with a constantly-evolving LED light display and a circular pod that houses the hotel’s check in desk.

    Functional Innovation

Each of klapson’s 17 rooms is wholly unique and incorporates adventurous design without sacrificing comfort. The bright, playful aesthetic of the hotel’s luxurious guest rooms feature furnishings designed by Sawaya & Moroni, including the klapson’s coffee table, a pert round table in lime-colored plexi that the duo designed especially for the hotel.

    Adrian Lee

As the director of the private investment firm Jit Sun Investments, hotelier Adrian Lee is no stranger to family business. After working with his father and brother to develop opportunities across the company’s diverse portfolio, which spans property, equity, and fixed income markets, Lee branched out found one of Singapore’s foremost design properties: klapsons, the Boutique Hotel. Klapsons derives its name from the families initials— KL (father), Lionel (son), Adrian (son) and Peggy (mother) plus “sons.” Lee claims, “We saw the opportunity to bring a new, fresh perspective to the meaning and experience of a business hotel.” With strong character and exportable architectural elements, klapsons is a vibrant adventure that proves Lee is never ready to conform.
