      About Your Stay

Located next to the iconic new Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, THE THIEF overlooks the canals of Tjuvholmen and the Oslofjord, with most of its 119 bespoke rooms offering brilliant waterfront views. The interior of the hotel reflects the innovative spirit of its surroundings: original artwork lines the walls, selected by famed curator Sune Nordgren, while furniture chosen by Anemone Wille-Våge reflects up-to-the-moment design without sacrificing comfort. Known in the 18th century as "Thief Island" because of its role as a prison islet, the waterfront district of Tjuvholmen is now home to one of Scandinavia's most exciting urban renewal projects, as a thriving center for business, art, and nightlife.

      Mellbye Architekter AS

Located at the edge of the peninsula, the sustainable construction is almost entirely surrounded by water, with all 119 of its rooms featuring French balconies. The Oslo Suite, in particular, offers a 360-degree panoramic view from its own rooftop terrace.

Designed by the prize-winning Mellbye Architekter AS, THE THIEF fits right into its cutting-edge environment. Besides the hotel, the island of Tjuvholmen is home to many stunning examples of contemporary architecture including Renzo Piano's Astrup Fearnley Museum of Art, thanks to the efforts of world-famous architect Niels Torp.

A museum in its own right

Alongside furniture and lamps from established designers such as Tom Dixon and Boca do Lobo, guests will find new, inspiring pieces from Norwegian up-and-comers. In each room, the design is complemented by carefully chosen artwork; curator Sune Nordgren heads the hotel’s art concept, in collaboration with the Astrup Fearnley Museum. Current featured artists include Sir Peter Blake, Magne Furuholmen and Camilla Low, with many more local and international artists to come.

      Petter A. Stordalen

Petter A. Stordalen is a self-made business baron. Through a series of bold acquisitions, Stordalen came to own Nordic Choice Hotels, the leading Nordic hotel company encompassing 170 hotels, along with Nordic Hotels and Resorts, a collection of independents. As the nation’s ninth-richest man, Stordalen has become one of Scandinavia’s most recognizable entrepreneurs. However, Stordalen is equally prominent as an activist, environmentalist and philanthropist, concerned with sustainable business, climate change and renewable energy.
