Built by French immigrants in the 19th century, Maison Couturier is an agricultural estate in the tropics of Veracruz, Mexico. Based on family traditions handed down through generations, the resort preserves the heritage of its French founders in this secluded tropical enclave. It is a place where visitors can breathe in the fresh scent of nature and drink of the refreshing waters of history preserved. Guests choose between eight bungalows and the landowner's suite, where they can enjoy massages, private terraces and hammocks, and all of the amenities of contemporary living. The restaurant draws on the best of the French bucolic culinary tradition, offering its guest ‘fait maison.’ Guests are also invited to partake in an excursion to the region's secret archaeological sites. When the best of the Mexican and French traditions are combined with contemporary luxury, the result is pure, natural bliss…and that is what Maison Couturier provides.

Each of the 9 bungalows and the landowner’s suite, or “la chambre du maître” invites guests to enjoy the sun’s warmth on a soft, brick patio under the cooling shade of a palm tree. The sleek lines of the guestrooms’ contemporary and linear elements enhance the antique furniture’s subdued color palate and smooth curves. The stone pool in the center of the bungalows and suite is seamlessly integrated into its natural surroundings, transforming itself into an elegant watering hole in the middle of an idyllic garden.

In efforts to retain the sensation of authenticity, Maison Couturier was built inside of its original architectural framework. But like any other of the Grupo Habita’s immaculate undertakings, it has been modernized to optimize comfort, and contemporary design has been flawlessly and weightlessly integrated into the existing structures.

    Mexican Belle

The profound love of nature at Maison Couturier is ubiquitous throughout the estate, and it is only underlined by the profundity of the care for design. The living spaces are bright and airy, with shimmering black tile bathrooms and deep basin bathtubs, polished antique hanging lamps and telephones, plenty of room to wander, and direct access to the central pool.

    Carlos Couturier & Moises Micha

For Carlos Couturier and Moises Micha, building hotels that reflect their surroundings is more than just a job—it’s a passion that drove these two Mexican entrepreneurs from citrus farming and investment banking to boutique hospitality. “Even if we’re successful at something, we don’t repeat it,” Couturier says. “We like this sense of passion and audacity.” Their Grupo Habita collection has grown to include 12 diverse properties. Ambitious, fun-loving and well-traveled, the dynamic duo was awarded ‘Team of the Year 2011’ by FIZZZ Magazine.
