      About Your Stay

Together with Emilio Heredia, owner of the existing Papaya Playa Beach Bungalow Resort, Design Hotels™ has created a destination in paradise along the Caribbean coast of Tulum, Mexico. Dotted along the beach and nestled in the jungle, the simplicity of the 85 cabañas is what lends them their special charm. The resort's restaurant overlooks the azure waters, where diners can enjoy locally sourced specialties; along the beach, drinks and snacks are served from late morning until late evening at the resort's Beach Club. In addition to massages and beauty treatments, guests can also enjoy yoga, tai chi and meditation to complete the holistic circle. Being linked to the best DJs in the world, Papaya Playa makes music a key component of the experience. All communal areas encourage creative collaboration – there’s even an amphitheater on the beach, where guests can come together to perform, present or communicate in their chosen fashion with music, readings, inspiring lectures and more.

      A barefoot luxury camp

Renovated by the Design Hotels™ creative team, the thatch-roofed cabañas are all ecological built with local materials including palapa (thatched) roofing, wood/plaster composite walls and bamboo window coverings. Each possesses a rustic charm while celebrating the luxury of simplicity.

Situated on a 900-meter stretch of oceanfront paradise on the Caribbean coast of the Mayan Riviera, the barefoot luxury camp has an urban spirit that encourages visitors to come together and be inspired. There’s something to suit every need and budget – from Casitas with large private terraces, to modest shared Jungle Cabañas with bunk beds and a communal bathhouse.

      No-frills furnishings

The rooms encourage its residents to soak in the warmth of the elements, both physically and mentally. The separation between man and nature diminishes in these rustic spaces and the absence of electrical outlets becomes a welcome reminder to truly unplug. The ultimate luxury in most of the cabañas is the private porch, where hammocks gently swing guests in-sync with Tulum’s laid-back rhythm.

The simplicity and no-frills furnishings of the cabañas lend them their special charm. All make use of 'double' sized beds (equivalent to 'full' size), other than the Casitas, which typically have one king and one queen sized beds. Fresh colors, the highest quality sheets and thoughtful details make for a comfortable stay – not to mention small indulgences like flowing mosquito nets.
