Architecture Alberto Laposse

When architect and entrepreneur Alberto Laposse purchased two 18th-century buildings...

he knew he wanted to fuse them into a great house with respect for their history. Achieving such a contrast between the neo-classical colonial architecture and a sophisticated contemporary design aesthetic required a painstaking attention to detail. He and fellow architect Germán Velasco aimed to create a fully immersive aesthetic environment.

Interior design Germán Velasco

In 2014, renowned Mexican architect Germán Velasco teamed up with Alberto Laposse to remodel Dos Casas.

Inspired by the buildings themselves, Velasco made reference to the colonial era when San Miguel de Allende was famed for its rich repositories of gold, stone, wood, and leather, which still characterize local aesthetics.

Wellbeing Headspace in the City

The Iris Spa offers an array of holistic wellness treatments in a soothing, thoughtfully designed environment.

Treatments range from stress-relieving massages with CBD-infused products to a sound massage with Tibetan bowls.

History Into the present

In adapting the two historical structures, Laposse invoked a dialogue of materials, spaces, and methodologies.

Here, the past and present entwine in graceful contrast. San Miguel de Allende’s own history was a powerful guiding hand throughout the process, and Laposse turned often to local artisans and craftsmen as a way to honor local history.

City A city of color

The UNESCO-listed city of San Miguel de Allende topped Condé Nast Traveler’s “The Best Cities in the World: 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards” in the “Best Small Cities” category.

In recent years, artists, writers, and makers from all over the world have made this colorful city—of colonial, baroque, and neoclassical architecture—a playground for experimentalism with a plethora of cultural institutions, galleries, and music venues.
