      About Your Stay

Like an ice cube on a hot street corner, Mexico City's Habita exudes a paradoxically austere luxury at the heart of one of the world's most populous cities. Wrapped in a sheath of frosted glass, Habita raised eyebrows in Mexico City when it first opened in 2000 in a 1950s-era building located in one of the city's most fashionable districts. Sandwiched between new and old facades are original balconies and new corridors. Contemporary art is served by the metal Jan Hendrix mural hanging in the reception area. The daylight from the floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors onto balconies is aesthetically matched by Artemide and Flos lamps. Together, it all creates a spatial clarity that gives travelers tremendous peace of mind.

      TEN Arquitectos

The complete makeover of the 1950s building by Mexican group TEN Arquitectos has encapsulated the 36-room hotel in a sensational floating glass box suspended from the five-story structure's facade, mediating views and providing a stylish privacy for the cosmopolitan jet set. Initiated by the adventurous hotelier duo Carlos Couturier and Moises Micha, the Habita broke new ground in hotel design with its modern interiors wrapped sensationally in frosted glass panels. The hotel’s glass sheath serves as an “air-filled buffer”, an ingenious climatic and acoustic idea that also mediates the views while providing privacy.

      Interior Design
      Enrique Norten & Bernardo Gomez-Pimienta

Glass and light are the leitmotifs in Enrique Norten and Bernardo Gomez-Pimienta's design, acting to shroud guests from prying eyes on the streets below and to create an ethereal atmosphere in this temple of modernism.

Guestroom space contains only a bed, Eames chairs, and a cantilevered plane of glass serving as both desk and table, while everything else is concealed behind a polished paneled wall. This reduced aesthetic visibly expands the experience of the otherwise compact rooms.

For Carlos Couturier and Moises Micha, building hotels that reflect their surroundings is more than just a job—it’s a passion that drove these two Mexican entrepreneurs from citrus farming and investment banking to boutique hospitality. “Even if we’re successful at something, we don’t repeat it,” Couturier says. “We like this sense of passion and audacity.” Their Grupo Habita collection has grown to include 12 diverse properties. Ambitious, fun-loving and well-traveled, the dynamic duo was awarded ‘Team of the Year 2011’ by FIZZZ Magazine.
