      About Your Stay

In ancient Mesoamerican cultures, the five petals of the Flor de Mayo's blossom represent the five senses. Continuing that tradition, the Flor de Mayo Hotel & Restaurant offers a plethora of sensory delights in the midst of Cuernavaca's natural beauty, beginning with the the hotel’s namesake tree that flourishes on the central patio. A line of  floral ceramic speakers awaken guests sense of hearing, while organic, locally produced shower products tantalize the sense of smell. At the restaurant, chef Victor Olvera's seasonal cuisine fuses Mexican and Asian influences, using local fruits, vegetables, and flowers to delight the palate. The sense of touch is stimulated by a relaxing day at the spa, where treatments use flowers and soil from the premises to create a unique experience. Afterwards, retire to one of 24 rooms, where 400-thread-count Egyptian linens awaitthe perfect end to a day in the City of Eternal Spring.

      Architecture
      Francisco Elias & Yamile Márquez

For the Flor de Mayo, up-and-coming designer and architect Francisco Elias of Elias Arquitectura collaborated with local architect Yamile Márquez to breathe new life into a protected 19th-century building, adapting floral ornamentation to the modern world. It all starts with the central patio. Following a classic “parterre” concept, the patio garden is anchored by the hotel’s namesake Flor de Mayo tree and flanked by steel columns from which a variety of Mexican flowers grow, including Floripondio, Lantana and Quiebraplatos. Flowers also grow on the hotel’s 80sqm rooftop terrace and lounge area, which offers panoramic views of the city of Cuernavaca and the surrounding mountains. The hotel also aims to make a positive impact on the global community, using energy-saving LED lighting and taking advantage of Cuernavaca’s year-round sun to generate heat and electricity via solar panels.

      Interior Design
      Floral Fusion

The light fixtures are inspired by organic shapes such as flowers, leaves and branches – fabricated in materials like brass and ceramic, they represent the fusion of the organic and the material world.

The influence of Cuernavaca’s colorful, fragrant flowers extends into the 24 guestrooms, which feature delicately hand-painted floors. The furniture closes the gap between the hotel’s past and its present, featuring special designs rendered in walnut, Corian and steel. There are also chairs from well-known designers such as the Bouroullec brothers, as well as rescued and restored local pieces.
