      About your stay

Situated on the Danube riverbank, at the foot of the Buda Royal Castle just a few minutes walk from the city center, Lánchíd 19 hotel provides sweeping views over UNESCO World Heritage sites of Budapest. A stunning moving glass facade is illuminated by changing colors at night; while flowing space and light dominate the experience of this stylish urban getaway, from the glass atrium towering above the foyer to the open-plan design of the rooms and suites. The team of Hungarian architects took every opportunity to exploit the hotel's potential for fantastic views over the city, which can be enjoyed from all of the terraces. The feeling of openness and transparency is enhanced by the clear views from the lounge, the restaurant, and from the intimate garden beyond. Its contrasts denote the evolving character of Budapest, one that celebrates both past and future.

      Architecture

      The color of glass

Named after Budapest’s famed "Chain Bridge" which spans the Danube, Lánchíd 19 is a contemporary highlight in a neighborhood of predominately 19th century architecture. The architect and design team created a moveable accordion-like glass façade, further animated by the changing colors of an innovative lighting design concept. Glass is one of the dominant materials in the interiors as well, creating a sense of openness and allowing movement and connectedness to become an integral part of the hotel’s character. A building-high glass atrium towers above the foyer, enabling natural light to flood the communal spaces and glass bridges that lead to the guestrooms.

      Interior Design

      Flowing space and transparent details

The lobby itself is equally dramatic with its transparent floor revealing Roman ruins a level below. Here again history is well integrated into the interior design where examples of classical-modern design, such as chairs by Alvar Aalto, are mixed with custom-designed furnishings. In the guestrooms, the spatial connection of the living space and bathrooms – similar to the whole house – indicates the concept of flowing space with their glass sliding doors.

      Csaba Valkó

Real estate investor Csaba Valkó had been longing to add a hotel to his portfolio, and in 2003 he encountered the perfect opportunity with an ideal plot between the Buda Royal Castle and the Pest riverbank along the Danube, two of Budapest's most iconic locations. Valkó hired designer Edit Rozsos, a longtime collaborator with more than ten years experience in Budapest's hospitality industry, to conceive the design concept. Valkó, an art collector himself, and Rozsos, a supporter of young Hungarian artists, were keen on ensuring that their guests experience the creativity and momentum of the hotel. The result is the award-winning Lánchíd 19, a fresh contemporary highlight among Budapest's 19th-century grandeur.
