25hours Hotel Bikini, Berlin, Germany, Design Hotels

In the heart of Berlin’s City West district, wildlife and city life cohabitate resplendently within the shadows of the 25hours Hotel. Part of the Bikini Berlin redevelopment project, this historic building—an important example of post-war modernism—serves as an urban oasis for visitors and locals alike. On one side, the wide green expanses of Tiergarten Park and the animals in the Berlin Zoo; on the other, the bustling Breitscheidplatz, the lively Kurfürstendamm shopping street, and the majestic Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. This duality carries over to the interior of the 149-room hotel as well, with a playful ‘urban jungle’ concept that includes warm colors, natural materials, and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer direct views of the monkey enclosure. But the most surprising view of all comes from the wide-open rooftop Monkey Bar and Neni restaurant with its rare, 360-degree panorama of Germany’s capital.

    Rooms & Suites

The 25hours Hotel Bikini on Berlin’s Ku’Damm is distinguished by its “urban jungle” theme, conceptualized by Werner Aisslinger. Roughly half of the 149 rooms overlook the monkey and elephant enclosures in the Berlin Zoo and follow a warmer design scheme, with natural materials, colors, and our favorite feature—hammocks from which to enjoy the ape house and elephant enclosure. The other half overlook the urban landmarks of City West: Breitscheidplatz, the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church (with architect Egon Eiermann’s new addition), and the famous Kurfürstendamm. The design in these rooms is rougher and edgier in tribute to the city’s raw, creative side. All rooms include complimentary WiFi, free MINI, and bike rental.

In typical 25hours style, there are plenty of spaces for both work and play, starting with the reception area on the third floor where the loft-like space has plenty of cozy corners, a café, kiosk, and meeting spaces. The innovative sofa systems for Bikini Island incidentally were first introduced at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2013 by Werner Aisslinger. The highlight is definitely the 10th story, which is home to NENI restaurant and Monkey Bar where a greenhouse and vertical micro gardens imitate the green outside.

    Architecture

    An Ode to Post-war Modernism

Housed in the Kleines Hochhaus, which forms a part of the iconic Bikini Berlin, the hotel has preserved or restored the original 1950s architecture wherever possible. For example, a great deal of effort was put into finding suitable systems for the exposed concrete surfaces.
