In Georgia’s Lesser Caucasus mountain range lie the Kokhta-Mitarbi and Bakuriani resorts, a former winter Olympic training facility that’s a favorite with nature lovers and athletes alike for its spruce forests, mineral springs, and volcanic topography. The ski-in-ski-out Rooms Hotel Kokhta, located in between the two, puts an abundance of year-round sporting opportunities at its doorstep, while a contemporary Georgian restaurant revolving around an open fire is just a taste of the cultural immersion that Rooms Kokhta offers. In terms of design and architecture, the property’s location demands centerstage: the floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the airy, geometric structure act as a frame for the surrounding Caucasus mountains, and the interiors point to the bounteous natural materials and artisanal heritage of the area—simultaneously showcasing the creative prowess of design duo Nata Janberidze and Keti Toloraia of the Tbilisi-based Rooms Design. Add a rooftop terrace and a lobby library for a glimpse into Georgia’s intellectualism and Rooms Kokhta becomes another of the Adjara group’s beacons of Georgian hospitality.

    ROOMS & SUITES

The guestrooms span from the 29-square-meter Standard King Kokhta room to the 88-square-meter Junior Suite. Many rooms feature a custom-designed terracotta lamp, a sculptural stone sink, and a “Wild Beam” desk made by local artisans out of salvaged wood.

The permanence of nature and the texture of Georgian heritage manifests itself throughout the interiors: Chestnut wood, terracotta clay, and local stone compliment a desaturated color palette of pastel tones that doesn’t detract from the surroundings, while sculptural objets d’art, a bespoke metal and stone fireplace, and handcarved furniture pieces spark conversation on every corner.

    ARCHITECTURE

    Levan Mushkudiani

Georgian architect Levan Mushkudiani went against the grain, creating an angular, futuristic silhouette that contrasts its more traditional neighbors. With a façade covered in slatted oak wood, however, the low-lying structure doesn’t distract the onlooker from the beauty of the surrounding landscape. In fact, the architecture encourages guests to admire their environs, with features such as a terrace overlooking the piste and floor-to-ceiling windows.
