La Plage Casadelmar is first and foremost about the beach. It’s also a hotel with a holiday home feel nestled on a sandy beach in the bay of Porto-Vecchio – a port town famed for its spirited nightlife and easy-going elegance, just an hour and a half from Paris. With only fifteen rooms and suites, guests will enjoy individualized service. Whether they are dining with ocean views at the beach grill restaurant serving uncomplicated gourmet cuisine with Mediterranean flavors, are reclining on a daybed by the heated pool, or toasting to the day's end at the lounge bar, they will be surrounded by the riches of this extraordinary island, alongside genuine hospitality that enhances the captivating setting.
Award-winning French architect Jean-François Bodin – who is also responsible for sister property Casadelmar, reached by complementary boat shuttle in 5 minutes – renovated the existing structure to blend seamlessly with the coastal surroundings. The key was to use natural materials and simple lines that do no interfere with the views or landscape. Inside and out, old stone forms the main structure, mixed with volcanic rock, cement, resin, glass, and 300-year-old oak.
The décor features a blend of stone, wood and volcanic rock in bright simplicity. The understated color scheme of the interior also draws from the surroundings with bright turquoise cushions, sandy light browns, white, beige and cream – beautifully balanced by the bold blues of the exterior. Everything in the rooms is inspired by life on the beach: the mat you lay on, the sand that sticks to your feet, the time-worn wooden beach huts, and the seashells you collect.
Sculpting exceptional spaces from raw ingredients, hotel manager Gian Luca Bertilaccio and architect Jean François Bodin have uncovered the chic treasures of Corsica’s splendor. Backed by a career in some of Europe’s grandest hotels, Bertilaccio is the General Manager of Casadelmar and its sister property La Plage Casadelmar. Bodin is known for his large-scale museum commissions, such as the Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha and the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris. Both Bertilaccio and Bodin hold a deep fondness for the Mediterranean island of Corsica, which might be why they were able to so seamlessly integrate the costal environment into their aesthetic vision.
