Rooms 109 / Architecture / Interior Design Eva Jiricna Architects / The Original Rudolf Ploberger

A modern gem of contemporary cool, the 109-room Hotel Josef in Prague's old town elegantly blends the 20th-century tradition of Czech design with the rich history of its surroundings. Abandoning conventional hotel interiors, Hotel Josef boldly embraces minimalist, comfort-bidding features. Evoking a stark white modernist utopia, from the spectacular glass and steel spiral staircase to the wall-length windows leading to the Zen-inspired courtyard, Hotel Josef will clear your mind and overwhelm your senses. A business center and gymnasium, along with a sauna and massage room, complete the sophisticated environment of Hotel Josef, which has already become a favorite destination in Prague.

    ARCHITECTURE

    Eva Jiricna

Starting from the refined detailing of the façade to the selection of fabrics and furniture, celebrated architect Eva Jiricna’s award-winning design embraces harmony and consistency throughout the entire property. She created two buildings around a peaceful landscaped courtyard that gives the hotel a clear focus and point of orientation. Hotel Josef has been holistically designed to respond to its exceptional urban location, while creating a calming environment for guests.

    INTERIOR DESIGN

    Mixing design efficiency and luxury

Classy, functional elements such as the rooms' lacquered finishes are offset by warmer design influences, including relaxed limestone floors. Baleri armchairs and Philippe Starck fittings in the bathrooms are a testament to Hotel Josef’s attention to quality detail. All have created a well-proportioned mix of design efficiency and luxury—without forfeiting any of the creature comforts one expects.

    MADE BY ORIGINALS

    Rudolf Ploberger

Austrian hotelier Rudolf Ploberger opened the stylish Maximilian Hotel in Prague back in 1995. In 2002, he acquired the vacant lot on which Hotel Josef now stands. A few minutes walk from Charles Bridge and Wenceslas Square, Hotel Josef is a jewel of contemporary architecture—and has given Ploberger the opportunity to enrich Prague's landscape with a new dimension.
