      About your stay

Set within the capital’s 798 Art District, Grace Beijing lures travelers to this repossessed factory area where even the name refers to a cutting edge art movement led by Chinese vanguards such as Ai Wei Wei and Huang Rui. Housed in a former Bauhaus-style crystal factory, each of the 30 rooms and suites has its own contemporary design in a subtle twist of modern and traditional aesthetics. Interior designer Shauna Liu took her inspiration from the local scene outside, adorning the walls with graffiti art, stills from the films of Wong Kar-Wai, and Chi Peng's photography. While providing recommendations on local restaurants and activities, the hotel’s concierge also provides information on the hippest art spaces in the neighborhood. Though during the Design and Fashion Weeks, one need step no further than the lobby to meet the region’s key creative influencers.

      ARCHITECTURE

      Reclaimed Factory Chic

The former Bauhaus-style crystal factory was built in the 1950s as part of the Chinese Government’s first five-year plan. Its conversion into a hotel was influenced by Hong Kong’s colonial architecture, which is echoed in its high ceilings and arching doorways. The original red bricks of the exterior have maintained their industrial patina to unify the style of the neighborhood, while the façade creates a strong contrast to the interior of the building, allowing visitors to experience a wildly characterized atmosphere when stepping inside.

From the striking furniture and muted colors of the lobby to the bolder colors of the bedrooms, designer Shauna Liu’s interiors are all complemented by a modern take on China’s Ming Dynasty décor.
