Located in a beautifully restored heritage building in one of the most vibrant areas of Montreal, the St Paul has been attracting the attention of design and architecture aficionados since its opening in 2001. The hotel is cloaked in a muscular Beaux-Arts shell, but once past the antique doors, the interior is ethereal, airy, and light—a perfect blend of old and new. Warm and welcoming minimalism dominates the decor, enhanced by dramatic touches such as the lobby’s translucent alabaster fireplace. Embodying an elemental theme, the hotel alternates between this airy reverie and an earthier, more textured approach, whether in public spaces or in guestrooms. The design reflects Canada's natural landscape—reclaimed wood furniture, tranquil color palettes, stone walls and an overall sense of spaciousness. The restaurant and bar Hambar is one of Montreal’s trendiest spots, the sort of place where in-the-know locals mix with hotel patrons with Vieux Montréal just outside the door.

      Historic Beaux-Arts

One of Montreal's first high-rises when it was built back in 1900, the historic building has been transformed into one of the city's most talked-about hotels. The captivating St. Paul reveals an ethereal design philosophy under a unique façade. Architects and designers placed upmost attention on restoring historic detail, while infusing the property with contemporary elegance. With its 120 rooms and suites, the hotel culminates in the penthouse floor, including the “Black Suite,” whose charcoal-colored walls are set off by dramatic 13-foot ceilings and high windows offering sublime views of Montreal’s impressive skyline and historic Old Port.

Inspired by the Canadian landscape, the design team juxtaposed traditional materials with clean, crisp modernist lines. Fire, ice, earth, and sky are used as abstract metaphors, while understated furnishings combine materials such as silk, stone, and metal to create a comfortable setting with gorgeous light fixtures and designer furniture sourced from throughout the world.
