Award-winning Argentinean designer Alexander Lotersztain, a true global nomad, conceived the hotel as a holistic design experience; one where guests feel special, but are not afraid of jumping into the bed like it was their own. His close attention to detail is reflected in all of the hotel's facets, from each of the cozy 21 rooms to the hip rooftop lounge bar and seasonal open-air cinema. Guests are welcomed with an iPod music system, L'Occitane toiletries, and the finest linens – not to mention a kitchenette and either balcony or courtyard. The eye-catching facade that reproduces the hotel's limestone logo makes it a bonafide design statement, as well as an urban landmark.

A hotel with a tangible face

Given the designer’s experience with the transient lifestyle, it’s no wonder that the Limes Hotel was conceived as a home away from home – albeit one with a cosmopolitan design inspired by its creator’s globetrotting past. Alexander Lotersztain’s design concept is comprehensive, extending all the way from the hotel coffee shop to the music and drinks list. The result is a unified thematic atmosphere, a hotel given a tangible face. The façade has been tangibly branded with the Limes logo on a gross scale, also represented on details throughout the Hotel lobby, rooms and rooftop bar and cinema.

A delicate balance of sophisticated warmth

The material selection for the rooms was based on its durability, maintenance and appeal. The result is a delicate balance of sophisticated warmth. The 21 deluxe rooms are each equipped with individually hand-painted walls, Blackbutt timber bed heads, floating bedside tables, Luna Textiles curtains, a “stump” stool and a limited edition “twig” table, exclusive to the Limes. Space is used efficiently in each room – the result is a visually clear space that feels luxuriously large and can be efficiently serviced.

      Damian Griffiths

Damian Griffiths is a dreamer. To most, an old run-down shack of a house is an eyesore, but for Griffiths, it was the site for a glorious feat of design – a 21-room boutique hotel where the beauty lies in the simple details. In 2008, the Australian entrepreneur opened the Limes Hotel in Fortitude Valley, a world-class addition to Brisbane's landscape. Griffiths's love for hotels and big cities stems from his childhood growing up in the countryside of Queensland, and from inspiration he drew from cozy boutique hotels he visited in the tiny backstreets of Paris and Barcelona. Combining his entrepreneurial know-how with a background in the accommodation industry, Griffiths reached his dream destination in his own backyard.
