IN VINO VERITAS
Merlot, Cabernet, Pinot Noit… we all have our favourite types of wine. Fortunately, our selection of hotels with extraordinary wine selections can accommodate even the most particular wine connoisseur. From California´s famed Napa Valley to bustling Singapore, we invite you to pop the cork and enjoy the full bodied hospitality of our wine list!
To enhance our list, each of our hotels recommended some specific wines that can be found on their in-house wine lists.
While in Zell am See, Austria, enjoy the Grüner Veltliner Federspiel „Rotes Tor“ from Weingut Franz Hirtzberger, Wachau. This medium bodied, dry, white wine will enhance a number of regional tastes and dishes.
In California´s wine country, the Hotel Healdsburg is one of the hottest places to stay. They say. “Pinot Noir is a very popular wine of the region and has a large presence on their restaurant´s, Dry Creek Kitchen, wine list. They recommended wines from two local boutique wineries:
Papapietro Perry Peters Vineyard, Sonoma Coast - strawberry, black cherry, cinnamon, vanilla, raspberry. Medium-bodied and juicy. This wine was the winner of Charlie Palmer's Pigs and Pinot 2008 held at Hotel Healdsburg.
Charlie Clay Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley - Medium-bodied with black cherry, pomegranate, cranberry, vanilla and subtle orange peel nuance. Chef Charlie Palmer has partnered with winemaker Clay Mauritson of Mauritson Winery in the Dry Creek Valley to make this acclaimed Pinot Noir.
Though a long way from South American, The New Majestic Hotel recommends their “Loma Larga” Pinot Noir (2004) from Chile´s Casablanca Valley. It is described as a juicy, generous wine, aromas of raspberry with a hint of forest floor.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with velvety tannins while the fresh cherry and berry fruit flavours support the spicy oak.
Ten Bompas in South Africa showcases wines purchased annually at the Cape Winemakers Guild Auction. They recommend the Luddite Dos Anos Shiraz 2004 from the Walker Bay Region or the Thelema Shiraz Reserve 2005 from Stellenbosch Region. Their favourite white is the La Barry Sauvignon Blanc 2008 from Devon Valley.
With a vineyard on property, the staff at the Loisium Hotel Wine & Spa Resort definitely knows its way around a grape. When it comes to recommendations, they suggest their own “Grüner Veltliner- Loisium Vineyard.” With a “full aroma, the wine is peppery, full bodied, with hints of black pepper, and mint leaf.” The hotel recommends the Grüner Veltliner as the ideal match to tenderly roasted or cooked fish, seafood, vegetables (like asparagus) or with the famous Austrian “Wiener Schnitzel” (veal).
The spectacular restaurant at the Omm in Barcelona offers this… “In Catalunya we have a kind of sparkling wines with a long history called cava. Cava is one of the most popular sparkling wines in world, and one of the most traditional cellars that produces cava is Caves Recaredo. Recaredo has a very good cava call Turó d’en Mota made from 70 year old vines that is full bodied, fresh, and creamy with hints of golden apple, peach, aniseed herbs and a mineral and sea final long palate.”
When in Paris, do as the Parisians do and drink champagne! With a Veuve Cliquot sponsored champagne bar, what better city than Paris and what better hotel could one ask for a celebratory toast!
The charming Three Sisters Hotel in Tallinn would like to recommend a special local Estonian wine from their list called Põltsamaa Tõmmu 1998.
“Põltsamaa is the oldest producer of fruit and berry wines in Estonia. Manufacturing of wines got under way in 1920, and by the end of the Estonian Republic, the drinks were known and highly appreciated both in Estonia and abroad. Põltsamaa Tõmmu 1998 is natural berry wine made out of the best Estonian black currant berries picked in 1998.”
Located on the Portuguese island of Madeira, The Vine Hotel features an impressive variety of wine-centric spa treatments in addition to what they offer to drink! We recommend the Red Wine Divine Bath…
