HOT DEALS AND NEW HOTELS

The relaxed, cosmopolitan spirit of Puro Oasis Urbano also defines the hotel’s owner, Mats Wahlström, the Puro Group’s Swedish-born, adventure-loving founder. In 1998 he acquired the eighteenth-century town palace and began to turn it into a unique gathering place on Mallorca. The hotel opened in 2004, and it underwent a complete refurbishment in 2010. Wahlström continues to push the boundaries with his vision for the hotel, and the result is a 21st century style hotel with 51 rooms, including 11 suites in a new private wing and three fully-equipped meeting and event spaces for up to 40 people.

With the redesign, the hotel’s original Boho-ethnic aesthetic has morphed into a more affirmatively urban look created by Swedish designer Gabrielle Jangeby. Smart leather furniture and earth-tone fabrics, modern art (including key pieces by Peter Gröndhal) reject the trappings of traditional prestige and embrace the new luxuries of time and ease. Public spaces are filled with chill-out music; there are numerous light-soaked lounge areas and on the rooftop terrace is a plunge pool with cushioned seats and canopied day beds.

The light, Asian-influenced cuisine at Puro Restaurant is a perennial favorite. The Puro Bar has a new VIP area, and a music studio opens in early 2011. In-room details include flatscreen Bose televisions, and spa-like bathrooms, free WiFi and iPod docking stations on which to listen to the latest tunes from ‘Puro Music’s’ own releases. At ‘PuroBeach’, the nearby beach club, there is a spa, pool and restaurant lounge set on a peninsula overlooking the bay of Palma.

Puro’s relaxed, Mediterranean mindset brings like-minded people together, encouraging them to kick-back and enjoy this cosmopolitan, Balearic classic.
