EMANUELE GAROSCI

A car and motorcycle racer gone hotelier? Indeed. But Emanuele Garosci has slowed down a bit to create hotel gems in Milan, and now Venice. Early training occurred under "accidental mentor" Ian Schrager at the Paramount and Morgans Hotels in New York. More new hotels are planned in cities like Marrakesh. And Garosci’s name still pops up in rally results.

MEET EMANUELE

Emanuele Garosci, the man behind a new hotel project in a 500-year-old mini-palace on Venice’s Grand Canal, has some strong beliefs. “I believe that everything we do in life we should do with passion, no? If we’re lucky, anyway,” says the self-professed “110 percent” Italian. Adjacent to the grand art venue Pallazzo Grassi, his intimate 27-room hotel is designed by Philippe Starck and is meant to “change the cruise-ship mentality that has evolved in the city,” he says, into something more like how Venice was in the 1930s. Namely a high-glamour, long-stay destination. With lots of Murano glass and even a 800-square-metre maxi-suite, his new property will make sure this happens.
