A small white portico ushers guests into this distinctive terrace house whose interior is richly ornamented using fine details such as tailored fabrics and original artworks from head to toe. Large oil paintings and carefully chosen antiques, including writing desks and upholstered chairs further emphasise the atmosphere of well-heeled luxury.

On entering The Pelham's drawing room, a mix of pinewood panelling, yellow chintz soft furnishings and Victorian and Edwardian antiques creates a cosy and eclectic atmosphere. The library is done in mahogany and, like the drawing room, boasts a period fireplace.

Guestrooms at The Pelham Hotel vary according to their architectural specifics – the interior design of the attic spaces manages to deal well with the sloped ceilings, whereas the two ground floor rooms simply present their given assets of floor to ceiling windows that slide open leading on to balconies beyond. Rooms are individual creations, each drawing on the character of antiques, a private art collection and the designer's passion for experimenting with colour.

Fabrics are key with distinct and bold patterns playing off against one another: it's a rare thing to find a window drape matching the bedspread. In one guestroom, a headboard with broad, vertical stripes of deep magenta, sunny orange, loud red and chocolate brown all rise up from a rococo patterned red-and-white bedspread below. The designer's passion didn't stop at walls either, of which some are covered in fabric too. One notable example is a classic pinstripe normally reserved for a suit. Never settling for the tried and true, The Pelham forges surprising elegance.
