Nestled into an idyllic landscape, the arcades and terraces of this proud, palatial building descend straight down into the rocks lapped by the Mediterranean.
Hospes Maricel’s atmosphere and style today is relaxed, but the fine skeleton of the building dating from 1949 remains, such as its neo-classical entrance, large windows and pillars with neo-Gothic capitals. Following a restructuring by the Hospes Design Team, traditional Balearic design elements of the original building have been brought back in the form of archways, arcades and columns in marble, stone and dense sandstone from nearby Santanyí. While the seafront arcade and extended terraces resembling steps, are undeniably grand, the deep, wicker armchairs and the potted herbs on tables tell a more down-to-earth tale.
The 24 rooms and 5 suites fulfil simple modern priorities with interior design that maximises comfort, space and light. Born of this philosophy, they have a functional, minimalist edge, using neutral colours and fine textures. Carefully chosen accents remind of the building’s illustrious history while highlighting its noble charm. Relax by the pool, which seems to flow into the ocean, or dive into it head first off the adjoining wooden deck. |
