Formerly a notorious haunt of the old-school jet set, this proud and palatial building once hosted parties that kept the paparazzi snapping. The atmosphere now is more stylishly leisurely, but today's international travelers can still savor a hint of those decadent days in the retained details – a neoclassical entrance, large windows, neo-Gothic pillars – of a 1949 building. Otherwise, a Hospes Design Team revamp has returned traditional Balearic elements of the original structure – archways and arcades, columns in marble and local stone – while modern accents supply a beautifully contemporary flair. The 51 rooms and suites fulfill modern priorities with design that maximizes comfort, space, and light and uses neutral colors to complement brilliant views of the Mediterranean. The seafront arcade and grand terraces send guests straight to another era – or to a state of relaxed bliss. So does the refined, subtle service. Whether they arrive by private yacht or just drive in, visitors can sample an array of open-air spa treatments in the grotto-like alcoves above the waves, savor local seafood in the Senzone restaurant, or float in the stunning infinity pool, which seems to dissolve into the … yes … infinite blue of the sea.
