Seeking nights of reverie and days by the sea, guests at this Ibiza house of relaxed fun are indeed kindred spirits of those who enjoy the Miami life in South Beach.
In front of the Botafoc marina, the Ocean Drive sports South Beach’s Art Deco look with its distinctive architecture and the individual letters mounted to the side of the building, spelling the hotel’s name down four floors. Blue neon lights trace the vertical lines of its façade, which are attractively crossed by the horizontal rows of marina-facing balconies. The interiors have been designed by Samy Masso, who has united the casual open-plan layout of the lobby, reception and bar areas with a red-and-white checkerboard marble floor. Eye-catching, large unframed canvases of works by the Spanish artist Antonio Villanueva provide an artful backdrop to selected pieces of modern classics by Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe.
A Villanueva painting also hangs in each of the guestrooms, where stylish Archimedes lamps are placed against an array of Pepe Penalver’s custom-designed fabrics and Samy Masso’s soft furnishings, which are all made in Italy. This skilful blend of timeless classics and slightly quirky touches manage to gently ease guests into the relaxed tempo of this Balearic island. Masso, well aware of the wild nights of Ibiza, has tactfully soundproofed the walls and installed sounding boards in the floor so that everyone’s private party is indeed a private matter. |
