Originally an affluent apartment house with wrought-iron balconies, designed in 1883 by architect José María de Aguilar, the handsome red-brick Hospes Madrid is an icon of Bourbon Restoration period architecture. Therefore the Hospes Design Team needed to take special care that their modern additions were in harmony with the building's historic elements.
Guests eager to experience the landmark in its original glory will be relieved that despite a dominant minimalist style, the original moldings, columns, wrought iron, and woodwork remain intact. The lobby's high ceiling and magnificently restored wooden door offer a grand welcome through the former carriage entrance. This gracious sense of hospitality extends throughout the hotel, where a tranquil, opulent ambience is created through white marble and gold details offset by dark fine wood.
The Bodyna Spa is ensconced in the former stables; the Senzone restaurant offers a formal dining room with an oak-coffered ceiling and stucco work – in contrast to the luminous interior patio, where guests can relax on comfortable sofas and listen to whispering water as they enjoy a drink at the hotel bar.
