JERÓNIMOS 8 LISBON, PORTUGAL |
 |
Set in picturesque Belém, Lisbon’s historic monument and museum district, the Jerónimos 8 hotel derives its name from the magnificent 16th-century Jerónimos Monastery in front of which it stands. The hotel’s privileged location is just steps away from the Tagus riverfront, and minutes from downtown Lisbon and the beaches of the Estoril Coast. Housed in a traditional Portuguese building from the 1940s, the Jeronimós 8 thrives on the synergy of modern design and historical association. Floor-to-ceiling windows on the building’s ground floor allow passers-by full view of the red walls, clean-lined minimalism and wengé-cube welcome desk of the lobby, a daring modern contrast to the elegant, old stone façade.
Inside, corridors carpeted in stripes of red, cream and brown lead to the 61 rooms and four suites, each individually designed, each boasting profuse natural light, clean white walls, gently-coloured finishings and lavish marble bathrooms with frosted glass panels. Large windows afford stunning views of the Square of the Empire, Tropical Garden Museum, Jeronimós Monastery and Tower of Belém. All rooms include first-class amenities, and some feature private Zen-inspired terraces with green bamboos set in serene contrast to white lounge chairs and wood flooring. Out back, a similarly designed sundeck is available for communal use, and inside, the hip, red-and-white themed Bussaco Wine Bar serves rare Portuguese wines and traditional Pastel de Belém cream tarts. Two meeting rooms for leisure or business events are coloured with the palette of carmine red, chocolate brown and soothing cream that, along with the minimalist aesthetic, constitute one of the hotel’s cores design themes. Throughout, the conversation between this modern interior and the hotel’s historic environs make the Jeronimós 8 an exciting expression of contemporary Lisbon.
Please note that Jerónimos 8 is a totally non-smoking hotel.
