Reykjavik uses a unique system of geothermal heating, made possible by the volcanic activity going on beneath Iceland that also heats major tourist spots like the nearby Blue Lagoon. The city’s architectural landmarks include “The Pearl”, made up by a glass dome resting on five water tanks, the impressive Church of Hallgrímur, designed by Guòjón Samúelsson (1986), and the main building of the University of Iceland.
