ARCHITECTURE / DESIGN
In 2003, Olivier Massart and his wife Patricia transformed 59 acres and ten stone farm buildings into a vivacious indoor/outdoor art foundation. Across the estate, the furniture of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Florence Knoll mingles with the art of Isamu Noguchi. Exhibitions, organized in collaboration with Parisian gallery Kammel Mennour, surround guests with the work of photographers such as Nobuyoshi Araki, Ellen Von Unwerth, and Daido Moriyama.
Each of Domaine des Andéols’ ten villas has its own unique character: from Maison Toujours, which embraces a delicate palette of pale pastels and art that celebrates the female figure, to Maison Amoureux’s concrete grey walls, which provide the perfect background for Bertoia’s bright red 1952 Diamond chairs. Outside, oversize daybeds hide from the sun under triangles of stretched white canvas. Down the hill, a landmark tree is experienced from multiple perspectives: immense from below, but enveloping from within - where guests are invited to dine seven meters above ground in Domaine des Andéols’ tree house. Later in the evening, the carefully delineated angles of an illuminated indoor pool play against the endlessness of a starry night sky.
Here at Domaine des Andéols, the organic shapes and colors that define the Provencal landscape take on new meaning in juxtaposition to its pure lines, bespoke spaces, and very personal collection of art and furniture.
