ARCHITECTURE / DESIGN

It is a truth universally acknowledged that health – both physical and psychological – is linked inextricably to environment. Architects and designers, then, do more than create and ornament space; they curate aesthetic and philosophical atmospheres intended to have a clearly-articulated impact. The HOTEL GABRIEL PARIS MARAIS concept is detoxification, and its spaces reflect precisely that. Their design reveals a firm dedication to guest rejuvenation and relaxation entirely in keeping with the overall healing theme.
Gently curving walls and LED back-lit sliding doors assure mellow light and soft transitions, while widespread application of the avant-garde HI-MACS, a stone-based material by LG, helps create thrilling fantasy forms and volumes. Guest room interiors celebrate Zen minimalist charm in white and pastel, while the bar lounge features a more surrealist decor in shades of white. The juxtaposition of linear furniture with cruise-liner portholes and curves creates a harmonious balance best expressed in the guest room centrepiece, a vertical “cabinet” comprised of a mirror-hidden television in the top register, a folding desk in the middle register, and a mini bar at the bottom. Signature ballerinas scattered throughout the property add a whimsical touch to the dreamy 1930s feel, lending an air of grace to elements as mundane as dressing cupboards and bathroom doors. Outside, a 21st century incarnation of art deco adorns the 1920s building refurbished b Axel Schoenert Architectes Associés. Inside, mild elements and carefully-selected ornaments play off one another to create a premier ambience for healing and cleansing.
