Christiania, a partially self-governed neighbourhood/state created in 1971 in abandoned military barracks that is famous for its communal spirit and hippy aesthetics. Other landmarks include the Kronborg, a UNESCO protected Renaissance castle rumoured to be the perfect setting for Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”, and the iconic Arken Museum of Modern Art, designed by Søren Robert Lund and opened in 1996.
